Chairperson, Nepal Engineering Council

NEC Reg. No. 161/33/2082-083

Warm greetings to all esteemed engineers and stakeholders of the engineering profession. It is an immense privilege to address you as I embark on my second tenure as Chairperson of the Nepal Engineering Council (NEC). As the premier regulatory body for the engineering profession and education in Nepal, the NEC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence and professional competence. In an increasingly technology-driven and interconnected world, these pillars are vital to our nation's sustainable development and global competitiveness. Engineers are the architects of our nation’s future. Through meticulous dedication, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to safety, sustainability, and economic growth, the engineering community designs, builds, and refines the systems that drive societal advancement. Our collective future relies heavily on robust education, rigorous training, effective regulation, and visionary advocacy. Established under the Nepal Engineering Council Act, 1999, the NEC is mandated to render the engineering profession systematic, scientific, and effective, while maintaining a formal register of qualified practitioners and regulating national engineering institutions. To date, the Council has registered over 99,000 engineers and has proudly awards the title of Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) since 2018 based on internationally adopted competence assessment procedures and standards. In alignment with global benchmarks, the NEC has taken lead for transformative initiatives since 2023 to elevate domestic engineering education to international standards. We have actively collaborated with national universities to implement Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and paved the way for institutional accreditation aligned with the Washington Accord. Furthermore, we are on the way of advancing systematic frameworks to secure international professional recognition for Nepali engineers through alignment with the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA) under the International Engineering Alliance (IEA). These strategic measures would ensure that our future graduates are globally competent, fully equipped to address complex engineering challenges in the global context. At the heart of our community lies an unwavering commitment to the professional code of conduct, the bedrock of engineering integrity and public trust. The NEC is deeply honored to serve as your regulatory guardian and representative, and we look forward to working collaboratively with you to champion engineering excellence across Nepal.
